I Don’t Want This White Moonlight Anymore! C6.2

C6.2

Not far away was a large shopping mall that had just opened that year. The first floor was filled with skincare and cosmetics, the second floor with women’s clothing, the third floor with men’s clothing, and everything above that was just entertainment and food.

There were countless big red plastic balls hanging from the ceiling, and beneath them was an incredibly large Christmas tree with bright fairy lights strung throughout. Near the roots were various gift boxes and snow-like props around, and a few kids were playing around it.

The pair took the escalator to the third floor. Some staff members were handing out mini Santa Claus figurines, and both Dou Na and Zhao Yinqing took one to put inside their bags.

Looking around, almost every store had activities going on.

Zhao Yinqing grabbed Dou Na and said, “Let’s go to this store, it has the best discounts, and they’ve slapped the discounts on so hard they could break bones!”
The two then went in to take a look. There were all kinds of things, and most of them looked alright, but even with discounts, the newest things were all still pretty expensive, and the only things within Dou Na’s price range were all last year’s items.

Dou Na herself had fallen in love with a gray, embroidered Korean-style sweater. It was extremely soft to the touch, and it was easy to imagine how comfortable one would feel while wearing it.

“Later on, you can tell her that it’s a special item going at a special price of 288 yuan. I’ll pay the rest of the money to you. Is that okay?” Zhao Yinqing avoided Dou Na and secretly told the salesperson this.

The salesperson readily accepted. After all, as long as there was money to make, who would say no?

After transferring the money over, the salesperson then went over to Dou Na. Dou Na looked at her suspiciously and said, “Is there really such a coincidence? You just said that this was the newest style available.”

“Yes,” the salesperson started talking nonsense while smiling, “This is a flash sale, just for this particular model of sweater. The sale just started, do you want to buy this?”

Zhao Yinqing really wanted to give this salesperson a thumbs up. This person really had some ability.

Naturally, Dou Na chose to buy it, although she found it strange, as though something was wrong. But it was still a good deal, so maybe she’d really gotten lucky!

As they stood at the counter to pay money, another customer came in, and a different salesperson went to greet them.

But the voice was very familiar. Dou Na and Zhao Yinqing looked at each other before they turned around.

The two that had just come in just so happened to be Sun Lu and Ren Xue. With a good looking guy and a beautiful woman, the pair was really eye-catching.

Dou Na whispered, “Woah, that girl is really pretty. Is she Sun Lu’s girlfriend?”

Zhao Yinqing shook her head, saying that she also didn’t know.

The pair was also choosing clothes. It seemed that Ren Xue was helping Sun Lu buy something as a gift, as she took something down and gestured at him.

Sun Lu just stood there quietly and occasionally glanced at her. That warm gaze of his had been something Zhao Yinqing had never experienced in her past life.

But why hadn’t she been able to understand that previously?

Zhao Yinqing lowered her head, feeling slightly helpless. It was as though she’d entered some sort of hell. Whenever she entered a mall she’d always meet these people. Would she have to look at the Chinese calendar every time she went out next time[1]?

The salesperson was doing a final inspection and packing of the sweater, while Dou Na and Zhao Yinqing stood at the side to wait.

“En? That sweater looks not bad, are there any pieces left?” Ren Xue pointed in their direction from a distance.

Sun Lu also looked over, and Zhao Yinqing turned away to hide.

The salesperson replied, “There’s no more of the grey sweater, but it’s still available in black and white.” Hearing this, Ren Xue was slightly disappointed.

Sun Lu spoke up. “Why don’t we go somewhere else to shop?”

Ren Xue looked at him but didn’t move.

Zhao Yinqing and Dou Na then left the store together, and Dou Na’s expression was slightly annoyed. “We’re classmates but he didn’t even acknowledge us at all, isn’t this pretty bad?”

“He’s probably just like this. Originally he already ignores us most of the time. Anyway, I’ve never spoken to him before. Have you?”

Shaking her head, Dou Na asked, “Both of you sit so close together but you’ve never talked?”

“I don’t have the guts!”

Dou Na nodded in agreement, and continued, “But there are still lots of people who envy you for being able to sit so close to him.”

Elsewhere, after the two other customers had left, the salesperson started talking about the interesting thing that had happened just now.

Sun Lu, who’d been quiet the entire time, suddenly opened his mouth. “The person who helped pay for the sweater just now. Which one was it?”

“The cute one with really big eyes.”

The other salesperson started talking. “That little girl is pretty good-looking. She looks really obedient and nice too.”

“Yeah, and she has a good heart, to silently help her friend like that.”

The closer Christmas got, the lower the temperature became. One day during class, snow started falling, and the first snow of the year started like that.

For once, Zhao Yinqing wasn’t immersed in her revision, and leaned against the railings to look at the classmates below that had seemingly gone mad, silently thinking of the date.

Zhuo Zhiying’s birthday was coming soon, the day right after Christmas.

In her past life, the time when Zhao Yinqing had cut off all ties with Zhuo Zhiying had been during this period. At that time, Zhao Zhengyang had constantly been out due to work, and couldn’t go back home to celebrate her birthday with her. In the end, Zhuo Zhiying had gone to find a little duckling to accompany her, and had been found out by Zhao Yinqing by pure coincidence, who’d gone to tell Zhao Zhengyang everything.

Originally, the two rolling about in bed together were going to be embarrassed. But Zhuo Zhiying had pretended to be a good person and turned the situation around to save herself. Zhao Yinqing hadn’t gotten hold of any evidence, so she could only give up, eventually resulting in the entire Zhao family being dug up.

This time, Zhuo Zhiying would be having the same dinner event in bed as the last time, and if Zhao Zhengyang wasn’t able to expose her this time then she’d be speechless.

Just as she thought of this, someone called her.

“Zhao Yinqing.”

She turned around and her eyes suddenly widened as she was unable to stop herself from taking a few steps back.

Sun Lu spoke. “The Chinese teacher is looking for you.”

After acknowledging him, she hurried over to the staff office.

“There are 20 multiple choice questions, but you actually only got 2 right, do you think it makes any sense? The teachers for other subjects all say that you’ve obviously improved, but why is it that when it comes to my subject your grades are like this?” The 30 year-old Chinese teacher, who’d just gotten married, questioned while slapping the test paper on the table.

He really couldn’t blame her for this. She’d already been run ragged trying to build up her foundation, and her memory had all been spent on English. As for Chinese, she hadn’t been able to fit it inside her brain.

“I seriously think that those two questions were just guesses by you. Is Chinese really that hard? To the point that you can only get 2 right?”

“Forget it, I also won’t say too much. You should go back and reflect on yourself. The Gaokao Chinese exam will eventually come up, so it’s not as though you have nothing to worry about.”

Finally, he concluded. “Copy all of the questions five times and hand them in the day after tomorrow.”

Zhao Yinqing walked out clutching her test paper, face full of humiliation, and the moment she looked up she saw that Sun Lu that bastard was still standing there.

“There was also a class teacher looking for me,” he explained.

“En,” she replied, and gave him a strange look.

TL Notes:

  1. Chinese Calendar: It’s a bit hard to explain, but it’s like a divination calendar? It tells you what you can do for each day based on like some divination calculations or something. Most Chinese people use it to find auspicious days for weddings and stuff. You can google it I think it’s called Tung Shing according to Wikipedia.

Christmas Eve! I have mass tomorrow and I’m pretty thankful that I can still go to mass to celebrate 🙂 Hope everyone has a good time eating, although you may not be able to have your family and friends around, you could have a zoom dinner or something! Or watch some sitcoms to cheer yourself up (recommend Brooklyn 99 never fails to make me laugh).
