I Don’t Want This White Moonlight Anymore! C2. 2

C2.2

In her last life, Zhao Yinqing hadn’t talked to Dou Na too much. No matter how expensive private schools are, there’d always be a few ordinary people who’d gotten in through their grades — Dou Na was one of them.

She didn’t really have any other unique points apart from being a study nut. Even if Zhao Yinqing had tried to talk to her, the number of times that she’d actually gotten a reply back could be counted with her fingers, so since the two had such incompatible personalities, she’d decided to just stop bothering the other person.

Walking to her seat, Zhao Yinqing flipped open her book and didn’t understand anything. The black words covering the pages looked illegible to her.

Her foundation had already been weak, and additionally it had already been ten years. The barely supported framework had already collapsed.

During class, all Zhao Yinqing heard was a blur of noise. As a couple of days passed, she hadn’t learnt anything.

“Ey, how come you haven’t been coming in and going out together with Zhao Yinqing? In the past both of you seemed to have gotten along pretty well?” A few classmates quietly asked Shi Tingting.

Although the two were dropped off by the same car, they seemed to never talk to each other. Shi Tingting had tried being friendly, but it was no use, and her face had gotten slapped again and again, to the point that now she found Zhao Yinqing bothersome.

Despite keeping quiet, the ugly look on her face made the situation more than obvious.

Some classmates wanted to hear the tea. “What happened? Did both of you fight?”

Some decided to badmouth Zhao Yinqing, and siad, “It’s probably because Zhao Yinqing suddenly became so ‘studious and upright’, isn’t it? And now she doesn’t want to be associated with you.”

Shi Tingting sneered and said, “With her brain, trying to learn is useless.”

“It’s fine, anyway it’s not just directed at Tingting. Even when other people want to talk to her she refuses to acknowledge us. If she wants to study then let her study, and we can just hang out by ourselves.”

“Yeah, that’s right, do all of you want to go karaoke this weekend? There’ll be a good-looking guy from No. 1 high school [1] coming too.”

Shi Tingting tilted her head and asked, “No.1 high school? Who?”

Someone else piped up, “I only know one good-looking guy from that school.”

Shi Tingting continued her sentence, “Sun Lu.”

Sun Lu’s looks weren’t the average kind of good looks. Anyway, everyone in the area had heard of his name before, and there were countless numbers of people who had gone completely head over heels for him before. Moreover, this guy wasn’t just good looking, he was also smart.

“I don’t know whether it’s him for sure, but we can still wish that it’ll be him.”

Shi Tingting had come across Sun Lu before, and that one look had made her heart pound like mad, so she actually did feel some anticipation.

Yingcai High School was split into short and long weeks. This week was the long week, so they had two days of break. No matter whether they were boarding or day students, they were all on cloud nine.

Recently, Zhao Yinqing had been cramming nonstop, but despite this she was only clear about the syllabus up till third year of junior middle school. Because of this, she asked Zhao Zhengyang to help her find some tutors.

Since his very own daughter was finally willing to study everyday to improve herself, he as a father felt incredibly happy. However, he didn’t know that Zhao Yinqing’s foundation didn’t just need some patching up, but rather needed a whole army to be built from the bottom up. She herself didn’t even know where to start.

Even Zhao Zhengyang, who had never cared about her schooling, had been shocked, but it was still alright. After all, it would be fine as long as she found a teacher for every subject…right?

Zhao Yinqing nodded, expressing her agreement, before lifting her spirits to go and study. Every night, her schedule was packed…with studying.

Even during the weekends, she prepared to go to the bookstore.

The Zhao family only had one chauffeur for the two girls. Before, both of them had always gone out and gone back at the same time, and one chauffeur was more than enough. But now, one of them had suddenly shaped up and returned to the right path, so the two were going to different places, and the driver felt slightly conflicted.

Tang Anfu had worked for the Zhao family for many years, and had watched Zhao Yinqing grow up since young, so naturally he decided to fetch her first.

Shi Tingting stamped her leather shoes angrily. She was dressed in an eye-catching dress, with a small satchel, and her makeup was done up in a clear, natural style, while she’d specially used the curler to make large waves in her hair. She’d carefully dressed herself up, yet the driver actually wanted to slight [2] her like this.

The prettily made-up face instantly turned ugly.

For Tang Anfu, she was still the daughter that his boss had newly welcomed, so it also wasn’t a good idea to make a huge fuss over this. So he said, “What about I fetch you after I’ve finished fetching Yinqing?”

“But then I’ll be late! I’ve already set the meeting time with other people, okay?” Shi Tingting’s face was full of annoyance and unwillingness as she glared at them. “If you do that then it’ll make life really hard for me.”

Zhao Yinqing hefted up her bag, her head full of study plans, and didn’t feel like wasting time to argue about this kind of thing.

“Uncle Tang, you can fetch her. I’ll call a cab to get there, and you can just fetch me back in the afternoon.”

Tang Anfu frowned, feeling that that wasn’t too appropriate.

It was only at this did Shi Tingting’s expression improve, and seeing Zhao Yinqing hurry away, she felt incredibly satisfied, as though she’d just won a match. Internally, she thought that this person was still a pushover after all.

Gleefully, she boarded the car, and even nodded at Tang Anfu while telling him to hurry up. The car then peacefully went off. Shi Tingting sat at the back, happily texting her friends.

After reaching the place, she instructed Tang Anfu, saying, “Uncle Tang, you can fetch me back in the evening.”

He replied, “I’ll see when Yinqing will be going home. If the timings clash then I won’t be able to make it.”

Shi Tingting frowned, and was about to say something, but before she could Tang Anfu rolled up the window and nodded before driving off.

“Che, just a guy who drives cars! What’s the use of acting so proud?” She rolled her eyes.

Meanwhile, the bookshop that Yinqing was in had quite a few people inside. The reading area was filled with students bending their heads to write and draw, and there were even parents accompanying little children around.

After finding a book on maths, Zhao Yinqing then went to look for an empty corner.

Step by step, she went through the solutions to understand them, and her head was completely packed with information on how to calculate this angle, and how to figure out what the different quadrants meant. She practically felt like her head was going to explode.

At this moment, she heard low voices coming over from the neighbouring table.

“I heard he’s going to transfer schools this month.”

“Isn’t that a bit too fast?”

“Yeah, we won’t be able to see this kind of amazing eye candy from now on.”

“Bai Bao is definitely going to cry alone at home. Since school started she’s being chasing after Sun Lu like mad.”

“She’s not gonna be the only one crying.”

At the mention of that name, Zhao Yinqing’s back unconsciously jerked, as though she’d been poked by someone.

TL Notes:

  1. No. 1 middle school: Chinese middle schools are numbered. So there’s no.1, no.2 etc and it’s based on province (so there’s No1 Beijing, No1 Shanghai etc). Number 1 usually means that it’s one of the best schools because those are usually the ones that were founded first and have the best resources. Otherwise if it’s not number 1 imho they’re just numbered randomly.
  2. 鸽: this. This means pigeon. I don’t know why it was used here. Maybe some slang I don’t know of (i am a total boomer… my weibo is practically unused except for keeping up with celebs). I just used context clues.

Rundown of Chinese Education System:

Secondary education lasts for 6 years, from ages 13-18, and is split into Junior Middle School and High School. Junior Middle School is 3 years from 13-15, and High School is 3 years from 16-18.

I personally feel like the author made a smalllll mistake on ages, so just take it as she’s 16 because currently she’s in her first year of high school. I’m gonna change the years in chapter 1 based on this. Also makes more sense to me I guess for girls to fall madly in infatuation at 16.

I made it!!! Got a temp job offer today so I’m pretty happy! I love money. Job is also pretty interesting. Comment below if you see any mistakes because I didn’t edit this chapter! Thanksss 🙂 Also thanks to everyone who commented before, y’all are honestly my only motivation for this story (apart from the fact that I too like reading it.)

A little confused as to why this has such a low rating on NU, it’s quite interesting so far and the quality of translation is more than acceptable! I always like novels where MC tries to improve themselves academically.

Reminds me a little of another similar novel I mtl’ed a while back, forget the exact title, something along the lines of “ML needs to work harder”…looking forward to more updates.

Thanks for the update! ( ╹▽╹ ) I hope her efforts to study pay off! It’s interesting that they didn’t make her really smart from the get go

I agree! I have a feeling somebody or some people are just review bombing, to be honest – they probably haven’t read a single word of the story. D:
I hope the translator isn’t discouraged by those ratings! I’m enjoying it so far as well. Congrats on your new job! 🙂
