I Don’t Want This White Moonlight Anymore! C1.2

Zhao Yinqing was kicked awake.

She opened her eyes, only to see a garishly decorated room, with pink being the main colour. There were lots of little knick knacks that a young girl would like, and clothes with their tags still on were strewn everywhere. It was very familiar to her, because it used to be her room.

“Yinqing, how about you give this to me to wear?”

Turning her head, she saw a young girl, with her hair thrown up into a ponytail. Her face could be called fairly pretty, with a nice nose and pink lips, but sadly her eyes were thin and small with single eyelids, giving off a kind of tired and gloomy feeling.

“Hey, I’m talking to you, can you give this to me or not?” She urged discontentedly.

Zhao Yinqing sat up from the bed, and blankly swept her eyes across the room, saying, “Sure, if you like it then just take it.”

Happily, she picked out three pieces before leaving.

At the door, she then turned her head and said, “Oh, by the way, my English homework is done. If you don’t know how to do anything later on, you can just ask me.”

Zhao Yinqing let out a noise of agreement and watched her walk away.

After a moment of silence, Zhao Yinqing got up and walked around. Finding her phone, she took a look at the date.

Really nice, she’d actually managed to return to that time 10 years ago. This year, Zhao Yinqing was 16 years old, about to enter high school, so she probably hadn’t met Sun Lu yet.

After wrapping her head around the unexpected, unbelievable situation, she immediately felt her head start to hurt again.

She’d never been the type that studied well. It wasn’t that her brain hadn’t been decent, but her foundation had been extremely poor, and she’d ranked at the bottom of the school in her previous life.

The little girl just now was called Shi Tingting, who was the daughter of Zhao Zhenyang’s current girlfriend. According to her memories, the two had stayed in the Zhao family home for several years.

Her family’s situation was pretty good, and the mother-daughter pair had relied on her family to transfer Shi Tingting over to her school. The two of them had even been in the same class, and at that time Zhao Yinqing had been completely dependent on Shi Tingting to copy her homework, even though she still hadn’t gotten that many right answers.

She sighed sadly. She had to go to school again, but she didn’t know whether putting in some effort in this lifetime would be enough to get her to the middle of the pack.

In the evening, a golden afterglow could be seen outside the window.

Filled with nostalgia, Zhao Yinqing was fiddling with the knick-knacks in her room. Just then, someone knocked on her door.

Shi Tingting entered the room and said, “Come on, it’s time to eat.”

The two walked downstairs one after another. Zhao Yinqing’s face was cold as she stared at the back of the young girl before her. She’d already changed into the clothes she’d picked out earlier — a fancy flower-patterned skirt, and her ponytail swayed vigorously behind her.

Shi Tingting’s looks couldn’t really make it, but her figure was still alright. Even at a young age, she already had curves in the right places, and after dressing up, she could attract the eyes of quite a few boys.

Unlike Zhao Yinqing, who’d been blessed with good looks, if Shi Tingting wanted to stand out, she needed to put in effort, so whenever some blind fellow decided to be close to her, she’d start showing off like a peacock, especially to the person living under the same roof as her — Zhao Yinqing herself.

At that time Zhao Yinqing had still been simpleminded and felt that playing with her had been pretty fun, and she’d felt that apart from taking advantage of other people, she could nonetheless still accept having this person around.

But unfortunately, Zhao Yinqing’s intuition had been lacking then, because in her previous life, this little sister had come up with plots to scoop up her man, before teaming up with her mother to get her father.

Now, since she had a chance to come back and change everything, Zhao Yinqing planned on coming up with a way to get rid of this mother-daughter pair, no matter what.

There were already people seated at the table. One of them was a charming young woman with heavy makeup on — Shi Tingting’s mom, Zhuo Zhiying. Next to her was an imposing figure with a stately bearing — her dad, Zhao Zhengyang.

The two children sat down in silence, and Zhuo Zhiying smiled, her eyes full of fondness as she looked at Shi Tingting. “Tingting, the monthly review is coming soon. How are your studies going?”

Shi Tingting replied, “I’m revising everyday now ah.”

“Do you think you can score better this time?”

“Don’t worry mom, I think I can do it!”

Hearing these words made Zhao Yinqing’s teeth hurt. Throughout all three years of high school, she’d diligently copied off Shi Tingting’s work, but the two of them had never gotten out of the bottom 10.

Truly destined to be crooked. She even wanted to pretend to be a good student.

Zhuo Zhiying then used her chopsticks to place some vegetables into Zhao Yinqing’s bowl, pretending to be concerned. “What about Yinqing? You haven’t gone out to play again, have you? You should make use of your time properly now.”

At that, Zhao Zhengyang’s gaze also moved over, his face slightly stern. Seeing this out of the corner of her eyes, Zhuo Zhiying’s eyes lit up, her chest puffing out. But in the end he only said, “Do you have enough money to spend?”

The smile on her face suddenly collapsed.

Zhao Zhengyang was the typical rich and overbearing parent, and didn’t care about his daughter’s grades. Instead, he had only ever cared about her going out to eat, drink and have fun, although that kind of attitude was also slightly amazing.

However, the word “money” had always poked at Zhuo Zhiying’s sore spot, as that woman had only ever pretended to be kind to stay by Zhao Zhengyang’s side. In fact, her ultimate goal had always been money.

Zhao Yinqing laughed internally, but her mouth replied, “I think it’s still okay, should be enough to last for a while.”

Zhuo Zhiying looked up and saw that Shi Tingting was pouting in dissatisfaction, so she hurried to say, “What about Tingting? How much of last month’s allowance have you used?”

Zhao Zhengyang frowned. “Last month?”

Shi Tingting immediately reacted and said, “I’ve already almost finished spending all of it, but I don’t spend much anyway.”

In a flash, Zhuo Zhiying looked distressed. “If you don’t have enough money then why didn’t you just tell me ah, look at the clothes you’re wearing. You’re always wearing the same few pieces, if you go out looking like this all your classmates will start laughing at you.”

Shi Tingting pulled out an expression of melancholy, and pretended to be sensible, saying, “It’s enough as long as they can be worn, I’m fine with it.”

Zhao Yinqing really couldn’t bear to continue listening to their skit, and tapped the edge of the bowl with her chopsticks. After getting all three persons’ attention, she said, “What about those three pieces with tags on that I gave to you? Did you feed them to the dogs then?”

Shi Tingting: “…”

TL Notes

Learnt to schedule my posts! 😀 Updates for this will… hopefully be less sporadic than my other fics. I’ll just schedule them after I finish TL-ing. Can’t really keep to an actual schedule.

Characters

Shi Tingting: Not the brightest lot of the bunch, but still the typical scheming stepsister. Not as pretty as our protagonist (obviously), apparently because of her eyes. (Say no to racism but also as a Chinese that grew up in a Chinese society having big eyes + double eyelids is a pretty big societal thing. So don’t shit on the author for that she’s not being racist she’s just being Chinese.)

Zhuo Zhiying: Shi Tingting’s scheming mother. Zhao Zhengyang’s girlfriend.

Zhao Zhengyang: Our protagonist’s cool dad. Seems to only care about her enjoying life. Studies just don’t matter in his eyes. Rich. Everyone’s favourite kind of dad.

Why do just about all FLs’ fathers in novels have no discerning eyes for the 2nd wives (or gf here) ???
They act like they’re smart but are easy to fool. Even supposedly “good” fathers suck at choosing stepmothers. :/

    Thanks for translating!
